Here is what you should have within 27 months of filing a Non-Profit within your respective state. Many assume it is the little filing fee to worry about and then ask for grants. Yet to be considered for grants and receive the perks a properly recognized 501 C 3 gets, you must have this check list filled out plus the specific requirements for that grant. You must have:

• Organization name

• Mission statement

• Attorney

• Articles of Incorporation

• Federal Employee Identification Number (EIN)

• CPA

• Budget

• Record-keeping system

• Accounting system (cash or accrual)

• IRS Form 1023 or 1024

• IRS Publication 557

• IRS Form 2848

• State and local exemption paperwork

• Bylaws

• Board of Directors

• Permits and licenses

• Fee waivers for any of the permits and licenses that may be available

• Nonprofit mailing permit

• Business plan
