"Naomi Osaka claimed her first Grand Slam title on Saturday after defeating Serena Williams 6-2, 6-4, in the final of the U.S. Open. With the victory, Osaka became the first Japanese woman to win a Grand Slam singles title." - NPR

We are glad to share this news and learned through many sources both within and outside the Haitian Diaspora that she comes from Haitian roots. It is said her father is Haitian and her mother is Japanese. She represented Japan in the U.S. Open while Serena Williams represented the United States.

Keep learning of the greats and soon we will be sharing all the news you can find on the Diaspora, the Americas (North America, South America, and Central America), Caribbean, and World. Look out for Haitian American News new website.

We know this will give copycats ideas as usual but as we say her at HAY Online, "We can be imitated but never duplicated."

Stay tuned for so much coming!
